LONG TERM HEARING LOSS
Hearing loss is a common sequella in children with congenital Cytomegalovirus Infection. Untreated hearing loss scan severely affect the language and speech development in children, but can also influence the cognitive development, self-esteem and social skills of the child. Considering the effect of hearing loss, parents want to know what the chances are that their child will develop hearing loss, how often the hearing loss is unilateral or if a severe hearing loss is suspected. In this presentation, it will become clear which children will have a low or high risk for developing hearing loss and what the impact will be of hearing loss and other co-morbidities on the development of their child. We provide an overview of hearing and balance testing necessary in children with cCMV infection and possible treatment and rehabilitation.
